Have table will travel

We went over to mainland on Saturday to pick up some friends arriving for a week's stay at a cottage around the corner from us. We were just in time to catch a photo of these four fisherman who unfolded their table and sat at water's edge for their lunch. Now that's living in the moment!

Dusk approaches

And so do the floats that came to participate in the first of the weekends activities. Floats are staged at the main landing where final touches of makeup are applied, skits are rehearsed and numbers assigned for order of appearance.

Parade at dusk

While the floats were not numerous they were definitely creative. As the sun fell, each float made it's way into the spotlight for evaluation by the judges and for the appreciation of spectators on shore.

Trophies, trophies, trophies

And the cup goes to.....winners of all ages stepped up to accept their trophies for swimming, canoeing, sailing and of course float night while the audience applauded each winner's accomplishments. It was a great regatta this year and with so many participants several of the cups were hotly contested!

Cache lake annual brunch

Thanks to Kim and Marilyn Smith and their amazing staff at Bartlett Lodge who once again hosted a delicious brunch for our leaseholder community. The food as usual was outstanding and this was our best turn out in years. That meant a little lining bit of up before filling our plates, but it was a good chance to catch up with whoever was in line in front or behind you and the food itself was definitely worth lining up for!!

Cache Lake Elders

Our community ties are strong - partly because generations of some of the same families have been coming together since the early 1900's. Pictured here are Cache Lake's honorable elders - members of our community who were among the first of some of those generations!

Community Ties

As much as we love the food (and we do), it's just as much about a chance to swap stories with our friends and neighbors. The annual brunch is yet another community event that brings together the front, back and middle of the lake and solidifies the ties that stretch back for generations.

Happy and full!

After a an enjoyable morning of food and friends, people eventually found their way down to the dock and into their boats.

I'm grillin' in the rain

Believe it or not, after all that amazing food...here I am grilling up some sliders while standing in the rain. Fortunately the rain waited until everyone had left the brunch and made it back to their warm, dry cottages.

90 years of Cache Lake Fun

This year marked the 90th Cache Lake Regatta...and Bill Brice’s 90th birthday too! To celebrate both, a very large birthday cake was presented at the Annual General Meeting. A fun filled weekend followed with well attended cardboard canoe, obstacle, sailing, swimming and canoeing events. Below are a few selections and a link to a gallery of images taken by myself and Carolyn from the weekend.

All in favor say "aye"!

Leaseholders voted unanimously for the annual donation to the Huntsville Hospital. This year the meeting was attended by Debi Davis who came to express the hospital’s appreciation for the individual and collective donations over the years.

But will they float???

Contestants in the cardboard canoe race show off their different and innovative designs before launching for the real test - the race around the flag and back.

Zoom, zoom, zoom

This entry modeled on a race car design didn't win any points for speed, but this "driver" was one of the few paddlers who stayed dry!

Wind in their sails

There wasn't a lot of wind for the race this year so our sailors had to work extra hard to catch their breezes. While they weren't exactly moving at high speeds, the boats fanned out across the course made for some very pretty pictures.

Mighty Muscles

These very fit ladies and gentlemen were this year’s contestants in this year’s Guides Race and provided lots of excitement for cheering spectators!

Stroke!

First place in the ladies' doubles wss hotly contested with lots of canoes jostling to get out in front.

First, second and third!

The judges had to pay close attention and Ozzie was there for the photo finishes.
